Hublot remains a relative newcomer to the world of luxury Swiss watches, with the company being founded as recently as 1980. Nevertheless, in the space of a few decades, their timepieces have emerged as some of the most sought after in the world and new releases from the brand that pioneered the ‘Art of Fusion‘ are highly anticipated.
In this post, we take a closer look at the main Hublot offerings showcased at this year’s Baselworld event.
1. Techframe Ferrari Tourbillon Chronograph
Perhaps the most newsworthy addition to the Hublot catalogue this year comes in the form of the Techframe Ferrari Tourbillon Chronograph, which has been designed in conjunction with the Italian car company Ferrari in order to mark their 70th anniversary. The watch is available in three versions – King Gold, PEEK Carbon, and Titanium
An entirely new model, rather than a re-design of an existing one, the timepiece has an architectural and bridged design. Its powered by the in-house HUB6310 manual-wound caliber, has a single-button chronograph function and a flying tourbillon. However, it is a limited edition model, with each of the three versions getting just 70 models each.
2. Big Bang Unico Red & Blue Sapphire Limited Edition
In 2016, Hublot unveiled a translucent watch, constructed entirely from sapphire, known as the Big Bang Unico Sapphire. This year, that collection has been updated with the addition of colored versions, making these watches the first of their kind. At present, the two colors available are blue and red.
Achieving uniform color with sapphire is a complicated process, because it is very rare that two sapphires are the exact same color and the material is not the easiest to work with either, due to its robust nature. As a result, these models are also limited edition, with just 250 of each color being made available to the general public.
3. Spirit of Big Bang Sapphire
Staying on a similar theme, this year the Spirit of Big Bang became the latest Hublot model to be remade from sapphire, albeit not in color. This means that, like last year’s Big Bang Unico Sapphire, or the MP-05 “LaFerrari” Sapphire before it, the model has now become translucent and much more scratch resistant.
The fundamental design elements of the Spirit of Big Bang remain in place, including its distinctive barrel-like case shape. Of course, the switch to a translucent case allows Hublot to show off the inner workings of the watch and this particular model is powered by the self-winding HUB4700 movement, which boasts a 50 hour power reserve.
4. Big Bang One Click Italia Independent
Baselworld also saw Hublot show off a new ladies’ watch – the Big Bang One Click Italia Independent, which combines ceramic, diamonds and velvet in order to create a distinctly feminine dress watch. Once again, the release is extremely exclusive, with just 100 of each model being released for general sale.
The timepiece has a round case shape, with a total of 42 diamonds decorating the bezel, while a choice of either blue, black or purple velvet is available. This velvet not only appears on the strap, but also on the dial itself too, helping to give each watch a more cohesive, trendy aesthetic.
5. MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis
Finally, one of the most exciting new releases this year is surely the MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis, which is the first ever multi-axis tourbillon watch ever produced by Hublot. The new timepiece benefits from a completely fresh case, which has a 49mm diameter and has been carefully designed to show off the interior.
The watch is powered by an exclusive in-house caliber, namely the HUB9009, which also has an impressive five day power reserve. The tourbillon itself, meanwhile, is clearly visible thanks to a large opening at the 6 o’clock position, while the left hand side of the watch has a simple date adjuster, allowing the date to be changed quickly.
