Top 5 New 2017 Omega Watches Review

Omega Speedmaster Aqua Terra Master Railmaster Planet Ocean 1957 Trilogy Baselworld 2017 Brand New Review

Omega is one of the biggest names in luxury Swiss watch-making and the release of new timepieces from the manufacturer generates excitement from watch aficionados and more casual fans alike. The prestige of Omega watches is highlighted by famous wearers over the years, including John F. Kennedy, Buzz Aldrin and Prince William.

As with many of the top luxury watch brands on the market, Omega tend to announce their new releases at the annual Baselworld Fair in Switzerland and this year was no different. In this blog post, we take a closer look at some of the stunning new models that the manufacturer unveiled at this year’s event.

1. Seamaster Planet Ocean “Big Blue” Ceramic GMT

Building off of the success of last year’s Planet Ocean “Deep Black”, which was constructed from black ceramic, Omega used Baselworld 2017 to unveil a new Seamaster Planet Ocean model in the form of the “Big Blue”. Aesthetically, the model is very similar to last year’s, although as the name suggests, blue has replaced black.

Like its predecessor, the “Big Blue” is a combination GMT and divers’ watch, with a large 45mm case diameter. This time, however, it makes use of the signature blue and orange combination, which is so strongly associated with the collection. It also offers water resistance for up to 600 meters, which is highly impressive for a ceramic timepiece.

2. 1957 Trilogy Limited Edition

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the release of three of Omega’s most iconic watches – the Seamaster 300, the Railmaster and the Speedmaster. To mark the occasion, the manufacturer has unveiled limited edition versions of each of the three models, combining their own classic appeal with the best in modern technology.

All three models are constructed from stainless steel and have a classic-style ‘Tropical’ dial, with pale orange dial markers. The Speedmaster features a tachymetre scale, the Railmaster offers anti-magnetic resistance for up to 15,000 Gauss, and the Seamaster has a black aluminum bezel. Each model is limited to just 3,557 pieces.

3. Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer 44mm

Previously known as the Speedmaster Moonwatch Master Chronometer, Omega took the decision to re-brand this particular collection, focusing instead on its history as a motor racing watch. The new model stays true to the core aesthetic of the collection, with its alternating minute-track, and has a 44mm case diameter.

A variety of different color options are available, while buyers also have the choice of either stainless steel or Senda gold. One of the strap options, which combines leather and orange rubber, has a very sporty appearance, while an aged brown leather strap is also available for those who want a more classic look.

4. Omega Speedmaster 38mm Collection

The new, refined Speedmaster 38mm collection contains a total of fourteen new models, all measuring 38mm in diameter and including both men’s and women’s models. A number of different case materials and aesthetics are available, although all of the models feature new oval-shaped sub-dials, influenced by the Omega De Ville.

A stainless steel model, complete with steel bracelet, is arguably the sportiest of the new models, while the ‘Cappucino’ model, which is one of the ladies’ options, has a diamond-studded bezel, giving it a more extravagant feel. All models are powered by the in-house caliber 3330 movement, which has a 54-hour power reserve.

5. Seamaster Aqua Terra Master Chronometer Collection

Finally, Omega’s Aqua Terra collection is often regarded as a dressier dive watch than the main Seamaster models, and this year it has received a significant update, with both men’s and ladies versions getting a makeover. One of the biggest adjustments has been a change to the dial, giving all of the models a symmetrical, balanced appearance.

As a result, the date window has been moved from the 3 o’clock position to the 6 o’clock position. The men’s models feature a new teak dial, which is a tribute to the decking on luxury yachts, while the ladies’ models feature Mother of Pearl diamonds, helping to make them look more extravagant. All versions are also now Master Chronometers.
