5 Eye-catching New Omega Models

For most Omega enthusiasts, the big news coming out of Baselworld 2016 was the brand delivering on its promise to update and improve its highly successful Seamaster Planet Ocean collection. Nevertheless, those were far from the only new releases offered up by the manufacturer this year. Here, we take a more detailed look at the range of new Omega watches that were showcased at the annual event.

Seamaster Planet Ocean Master Chronometer Chronograph

Omega’s new Planet Ocean releases mark the first upgrade to this collection since 2011 and the primary change is the inclusion of a ‘Master Chronometer’ movement, which has been subjected to extensive in-house METAS testing. In addition to being more rigorously tested, these movements also offer superior anti-magnetic properties.

A new lug attachment system helps to make the strap or bracelet fit more snugly, which is ideal for a watch with a case size measuring 45mm in diameter. Moreover, there is a new diving bezel style available, which blends ceramic and rubber, giving it a truly unique appearance and allowing divers to time 15-minute intervals more easily.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean Master Chronometer will be available from August 2016, with prices starting at $8,900.

Speedmaster Moonphase Master Chronometer Chronograph

This year at Baselworld, Omega decided to place a strong focus on their historic association with NASA through the release of a new Speedmaster Moonphase Master Chronometer Chronograph collection. As the name suggests, these timepieces feature a moonphase indicator complication, while two sub-dials offer excellent symmetry.

A number of variations are available, including the entry-level stainless steel model, with a blue liquid metal dial, and a more expensive yellow gold model, with a green liquid metal bezel. Additionally, a rare platinum version was also unveiled at Baselworld, with a red liquid metal bezel and a magnifying glass enhancing the date display.

The Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph will be available from October 2016, with prices starting at $11,400.

Globemaster Master Chronometer Annual Calendar

The Globemaster was Omega’s flagship release in 2015, and was especially notable for being the brand’s first model to benefit from a Master Chronometer certified movement. At Baselworld 2016, a new version of the model was showcased, with the key addition of an annual calendar complication.

Omega have increased the case size to 41mm in order to make room for the calendar, which is indicated by a central hand, with the months displayed in the spaces between each hour marker. This solution, combined with a date  display window at 6 o’clock, produces a clean, uncluttered look, which fits the timepiece’s retro appearance.

The Globemaster Annual Calendar will be available from October 2016, with prices starting at $8,100.

Considered a dressier version of the Seamaster, the Aqua Terra line has also received an upgrade this year, with the release of two distinctive watches. The first is a 38.5mm model, which is constructed from titanium, with a nylon strap, while the second is a larger 43mm model, which has a titanium case and bracelet.

Both models feature date display windows, with the larger model’s being located at the 6 o’clock position and the smaller model’s placed at 3 o’clock. It should be noted that neither watch benefits from a new METAS Certified Master Chronometer, although their movements do have anti-magnetic resistance for up to 15,000 Gauss.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra “Goodplanet” is available now, with prices starting at $7,200.

Finally, the new Omega Constellation Small Seconds Master Chronometer has the distinction of being the brand’s first ladies model to utilize a new Master Chronometer movement, the caliber 8704. The watch retains the elegance associated with the model in the past, but a number of improvements have also been made.

Chief among these improvements is the inclusion of a small seconds feature, which has four diamond markers. Meanwhile, the date display window has been moved to the 6 o’clock position, in order to give the timepiece a more balanced aesthetic. The watch itself is constructed from steel and 18K red gold, and is decorated with diamonds.

The Constellation Small Seconds Master Chronometer will be available from October 2016, with the price TBA.
