Hey, guys. This is Kevin from Jaztime.com, and today we'll be reviewing the Rolex Submariner, reference number 16618. We'll be going over the price, dial, bezel, case, crown, bracelet, clasp, and we'll talk about the movement towards the end of the video. So as of July 2017, this watch is currently discontinued, as it has been discontinued for quite a while now, as the, this originally started selling in the late 1980s up until 2010, so about seven years ago. And that was to make room, make way for the newer model, which was the 116618LB, which is the same watch with the updated features of the newer style Submariners. But even then, the Submariner is still pretty unique. The current market value, the current market value at the moment, you're looking at $13,900 for this watch, okay? So even though this is a discontinued model, this model still is, this model, it's still a little piece of treasure. It's very beautiful. As we move on to the dial now. We don't have a maxi dial. We have the very stent-, we have the older style dial, which is just much smaller hour markers, much sleeker, with a beautiful sunburst blue dial, the Rolex name, and that gold coloring. Once again, the index marker is circular with index at the six, nine, and 12:00 position. Doesn't really take up too much of the dial. At the right, at the 3:00 position, we have the date window, or date aperture, with a cyclops lens on top of that sapphire crystal for easier viewing of that date. But overall very simple dial. The newer style Submariners have much larger hour markers now that take up some of the property on the dial now. So this, the smaller hour markers are very nice. Moving on to the bezel now. The bezel is a very, very simple aluminum bezel insert. It's a, obviously a blue. That's a unidirectional bezel, so it only turns one way, and that's to the left. It has a 60-minute graduated scale all around, as you can, as shown. And I can actually go ahead and go over the bezel function really quickly here. So the purpose of the bezel function is to track elapsed time. Specifically, this being a diver's watch, you, when divers go underwater, they want to track how much they, how much oxygen they have left in their tank. They'll simply just turn the bezel all the way throughout. You wanna match the peridot to the minute hand. So let's just say they wanna track their oxygen levels starting from that minute. Now the peridot's lined up with the minute hand and they can track the elapsed time as the minute starts to go around, go clockwise around the dial. The thicker index markers are five-minute increments, where the Arabic numerals obviously state the numbers, 10, 20, 30, so on and so forth. The reason why it's unidirectional is that, just in case they bump into anything, they don't want to be able to shift that bezel backwards to give them a false sense of how much time they have, how much oxygen time they have left. That's why it's unidirectional. Otherwise, for everyday purposes, you can use it to track how fast you run a mile, you can track how long a business meeting is taking, or how much time you have left to do a certain task at work. So very nice feature. I'm gonna go ahead and reset that here. All right, so let's go ahead and move on to the crown now. So the cr-, rather, let's move on to the case now. The case is a 40 millimeter case, and that's from my index finger to my thumb here. It has a much thinner case than a modern Rolex, modern Rolex Submariners. Nice high, beautiful high polish along the sides. Case fully made out of 18 karat yellow gold. One thing to mention here is that the holes in the case, there are holes in the side of the case, which is known to the older styles, older style Rolex watches, and that's simply just for, to be able to release the bracelet and remove a link and such. Moving on to the Rolex crown now. You have the Rolex logo on the crown. Also made out of 18 karat yellow gold with even protectors on the side of it to protect that crown. The crown has simple features. As we go ahead and unscrew it counter-clockwise, we'll be in Position 1, in which you can wind the watch, 20 to 30 times, no more, no less, as you might damage the watch. A simple tug of the crown will allow you to adjust the date very quickly, very instantaneously, when moving clockwise. And then the final position, or final tugging of the watch position, number three, you'll be able to adjust the hands bidirectionally and set the time. Of course, once the crown is fully pulled out, the second hand or the hack movement will stop, allowing you to set the time precisely to an atomic clock online down to the exact seconds, or you can set it to your iPhone time, as well, down to the exact seconds. Okay? So always make sure, press the crown nice and tight against the case and screw that back in. That's go ahead, that'll start the seconds hand and the hack movement once more, and this will keep the watch water resistant up to 300 meters, or rather, yeah, 300 meters or 1000 feet. Okay, so moving on to the bracelet now. The bracelet's a very simple, a very simple bracelet. It's a oyster three-piece link bracelet in which it has a high polish down the center with sand finish or brushed yellow gold on the side, outer piece of the three-piece link bracelet. One thing to mention here is that the older style watches had what's called the hollow link, so these links are hollow, or rather, where the pins go into the links are hollow, so they have this little wiggle room in between each link, which adds a little more flexibility and more breathability to your wrist, but unfortunately it does stretch out over time. The newer style bracelets are solid gold now, so they don't have this little wiggle room and they keep that same uniform shape throughout its lifetime. Moving on to the clasp now. The clasp follows that same patterning as we saw with the br-, as we saw with the oyster bracelet. It has a high polish down the center, the sand finish, brushed yellow gold on the sides, and it has kind of little indentations to kind of follow that patterning of the links. The clasp is a safety folding oyster. This little hinge is a safety which holds that folding oyster down. And we'll pop that out. Very simple, it's very simple and easy to use. We have the Rolex name embossed onto the clasp blade itself. The clasp blades are very thin. For the clasp, adjustment can be made by actually pressing in the sides of the pins, and you can adjust it for 2 millimeter increments in between each hole. So you have to press out both pins and then let them sit into each pinhole. Okay. So let's go ahead and move on to the movement now. So the movement is housed in a simple oyster case back, is Rolex's, one of Rolex's most outstanding movements that have been tried and tested over years and years. It is the 3135 movement, which is a perpetual mechanical self-winding movement with a precision of +2/-2 seconds a day. It has the simple functions on the hour, so center hour, minutes, seconds, and instantaneous changing of the date, also with the stopping of the seconds hand for precise time setting. And it does have a paramagnetic blue parachrom hairspring which allows for shock resistance, so very nice. And it has a power reserve of 48 hours. So you can put this watch down on a Friday evening, pick it back up on a Monday, Sunday evening, and it still should be keeping time just fine. Let me actually go ahead and show you this watch on the wrist now. I'll pop out that folding oyster and put that safety on, and here's the watch. A very beautiful dial, that sunburst blue dial, as you can see as I tilt it towards the light. Really glows. Okay?
