Description

Hey, welcome back to Jaztime, jaztime.com is an online store that buys, sells, and trades authentic luxury watches. We make these videos so you can easily choose the best watch for yourself at the comfort of your own home. We offer the lowest prices anywhere online and if you'd like to know the price, simply click on the links in the description below. We'd greatly appreciate if you purchased your next watch from us at jaztime.com. Today, we'll be doing an unboxing and review of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Blue Steel. Now, I can't find a reference number for this watch so if you happen to know it, just leave it down below, and I'd greatly appreciate it but it is Bell & Ross's BR 05 chronograph with a blue dial and entirely made in steel. We'll be looking at the watch, the case, bezel, dial, the crown functions, bracelet, as well as the movement and I'll be giving you my thoughts on the wearing experience as well, as well as my thoughts on all of the aforementioned points as we go through the video. All right, so we'll be taking a look at this box, first we'll open it up here, all right? And we have right up top here, we have the instructions, all right? And on the back we have the warranty card, all right? And that's just about all that comes with this, all right? Now, what we have on the inside here is this nice push-button open case and here is the watch, comes out quite easily here, all right? And there you are, the pillow, very, very wide form factor there but that's to keep it, you know, from bending unnecessarily there, right? So, as is part of the unboxing process, we're removing all of these stickers for a clear view, nice and easy view of all of the aspects of this watch. All right, and note that high polish on those intermediate links with these satin-brushed finishing on those H-shaped links going all the way down. Very interesting set of design here. Okay. And double deployment clasp opens up. Okay, all right, that's all I'll take off from here. Now, if you've seen our other watch videos, actually, let me clean up back here, make it actually a little bit presentable. All right, now if you've seen our other watch videos, you'll probably note some really uncanny similarities between this watch and other watches where we've had, say for example, we have seen say, Panerai-style watches where you have those rounded fonts for the large Arabic numerals. Now we only have the 12 and 6 on here because this is a chronograph. We also have, we've also seen, you know, that sort of vertical satin finishing on the front with the high polish along the first bevel, very similar to what you see on a Audemars Piguet, as well as the, let's say, a Nautilus-style bracelet with the high polish intermediate links going all the way down with those H-shaped, vertical, brushed-satin finishing, very interesting watch so we have here which is not Panerai, Audemars Piguet, or, you know, a Patek Philippe here, all right? So, anyway, we'll be going over the case now, that's 42 millimeters in width, from finger to thumb in width, literally 42 millimeters, right? It measures, well, it has the satin-brushed finishing as I said, along the face of this case, all right? Below that bezel, and the very first bevel has a very, very tiny high polish going all the way along the edge there, alternating with that satin-brushed finishing as well. Now going vertically, sort of to go along with the height of the case, very interesting design decision there, right? And we also have a high polish as well, going down to the caseback as well as satin-brushed finishing back again, all right. Now, same with the bezel, we have the satin-brushed finishing along the front here, going along the face, with those exposed screws. Now, very intentionally placed such that the slots of these screws sort of travel inward, right to the center of the watch. Now, Bell & Ross have said that this is essentially a form of mimicking instrument panels on an airship or otherwise in an airplane and, you know, I actually see that because you would have this square-shaped panel with a round dial, right? So that makes sense to me but a lot of people do seem to point out the similarities between this and say an Audemars Piguet who have the six, you know, the eight hexagonal screws, whereas on this we only have four, round screws, all placed intentionally as well, all right? With the vertical, satin-brushed finishing as well as the first bevel having that high polish along the side and then back to a very thin satin finish along the edge of that bevel, along the edge of the second bevel of that bezel. Now looking inward, closer into that dial there, now we also have the Arabic numerals for the five-minute marks, also 60 seconds or five-second or five-minute marks, depending on how you want to call them, to label each index mark. Now the hours here are largely index marks, very much in-line with those baton-style hour and minute hands as well. We also have the rounded 12 and 6-hour marks in Arabic numerals, all right? And also note that this watch is also luminous, it also has the Super-LumiNova, all right? So we have a greenish tone to that glowing feature there, glow-in-the-dark feature to allow you to read it quite easily in the dark and that's one, you know, very good function of having index markers, right? Now, turning the lights back on. Unfortunately, the Super-LumiNova is not applied to the 12 and 6, and as you can see, as I move it back and forth in the light box, there's no application there, they're just straight, white gold on the dial, okay? So now this dial, the finishing is a blue sun ray pattern. As you move it back and forth, you can actually see the sort of radial pattern of that dial, especially on the rehaut or the sort of inner bezel there, also has the same sort of finishing. It's a very nice touch and I actually do very much like this. It starts out with a rather deep blue all ready and it just gets deeper and deeper from there. So I actually quite like this style, it's a very beautiful dial. Now, taking a look at the crystal, we also have, it's completely flat and circular with that sapphire so it allows you to wear this with no fear of potentially scratching it, right? And same with the caseback there, we also have a skeletonized, well it's not entirely skeletonized but it's an exhibition caseback, meaning that you can see through the back of the case and also you can see the movement, well, sort of behind this sort of 360 degree rotator on their 360 degree oscillating weight, all right? More on that in a moment. So, first, we'll be looking at the functions here. Okay, so crown works as you would expect, simply unwind it to the first position, this allows you to wind the watch, so if you're at a dead stop, just 20 to 30 full winds is all you really need to get it started, right? Pull out the crown to the second position and rotate it counterclockwise to advance the date forward. The date aperture is at the 4:30, almost like 4:35 position, all right? And I very much like how the date actually advances because it's not an up and down movement, it's not a side to side movement, it's kind of like a rounded, you know, you can actually tell that this is certainly a rounded date dial behind this front face here and it has also that matching blue as you can see on the dial as well, right? So I actually very much like this overall, this little design touch on the date and it's about half a turn to advance the date by one so, you know, if you find yourself on the 30th of a month, you'll have to do a full turn to advance it to the first of the next month, right? Now pull the crown out to the final position and it actually hacks the seconds hand which is shown in the small seconds at the three o'clock position, right? That allows you to place the minute hand precisely as you would need, right? And then you can just press it back in, press the crown back in to get that second hand started again and wind it tightly against the case and it allows you for up to a 100 meter or 330 foot water resistance below sea level. Note that the nine o'clock subdial actually also has a white hand, whereas the small seconds is just all metal or in this case, a white gold, just a singular color there, the chrono hand is a white color. So the chrono functions here work as you would expect, simply press the seconds, or, you know, any, your start and stop button rather at the one o'clock or two o'clock position technically and you can see that chrono hand go. Now it goes along with the chrono counter, goes up to 30 minutes, at the nine o'clock, and it just slowly moves in coordination with the chrono hand, it doesn't actually tick forward once it reaches the very top. So you have kind of a pretty accurate representation in that chrono dial, subdial, at the nine o'clock, right? Now I'm just gonna stop it there and once you stop it, you can reset it by pressing the bottom pusher and it just resets both the chrono hand as well as the chrono counter at the nine o'clock position. All right, so what makes all of this work? It's the caliber BR-CAL.301 made by Bell & Ross in-house. It's an automatic movement, entirely analog display, diameter 28 millimeters on the inside, it has 37 jewels altogether and it also gives you 42 hours of power reserve. It also beats out a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour or four hertz, all right? It allows you for the instant-rapid setting of the date, the chronograph functions, the center-mounted hour and minute hands, with the 30-minute counter at the nine o'clock and central chronograph seconds all working together as you can see here, all right? And so all of that, it's a very, very elegant, overall timepiece with all of that function and just a tiny little movement that just fits. I believe this is a 13-millimeter thickness so not the thinnest watch but with all that you're getting, this is a pretty good-sized watch for all the function, all right? Now taking a look again at the framing here, we have a very good satin-brushed finishing on these links going all the way down with the intermediate links being a high polish, complete with my fingerprints now, all right? And we also have a high polish along the, oh, actually, no, that's a statin finishing but the statin finishing is so subtle that it could actually double as a high polish. It's a very, very specific type of finishing, it's very fine finishing that you can see there, right? Going down to the clasp here, it's a double button deployment clasp with the Bell & Ross amperstand logo right in the center there and it opens one side at a time. Now having this double deployment has actually, very beneficial for anyone who's wearing this watch, you know, with more of a snug fit or for a smaller wrist because there is less of a chance of pinching, right? And while we're here, I can actually try it on, and give you some of my thoughts as to the overall wearing experience. Now for this clasp, you'll have to close it on one side first and then the side with the Bell & Ross logo, the amperstand, second, all right? Now on the wrist, if I can zoom out here, it's a quite a chunker because it is, you know, 42 millimeters in width. I measured about 47 centimeters lug to lug so it gives it quite a bit of height that kind of seems a bit camouflaged with the way that the intermediate links work there, with the lugs there, all right? And taking a look at the overall profile there, I'm looking at the monitor of my camera, I'm not seeing a whole lot of bracelet on the top or the bottom so this is very large for me, I have a seven inch wrist here so, you know, this is a very large watch for me, personally, I would prefer a little bit smaller, but, you know, actually I can't say no to this very nice, attractive dial, it has everything I could ever possibly need on it. And with its overall appearance, that very deep blue, gives it a very, even though it's extremely deep, it's a very subtle effect, sort of giving you that, you know, sense that there's a lot more depth here than it really meets the eye, all right? And with this form factor, the way that the bezel sort of very, very lightly builds upon this case with all of these bevels here, it actually makes it a very, very good fit under a sleeve, maybe not so much under a suit cuff but it will certainly slide very nicely underneath it. The overall weight, quite heavy on the case and not a whole lot going on the strap here so the strap or the bracelet rather is rather light in comparison to the case, therefore, you know, just be very careful if you feel like you're a little bit more active, even though this is considered to be like an urban, instrument watch, sort of like a sports watch from say like the 70's, that's sort of the reference of the overall look and reference here for this Bell & Ross BR 05 chrono. Now, you could take this for a sports-style excursion but just keep in mind that this is rather heavy on the top but if that's your thing, then hey, all the more power to you, all right? And I love that double deployment class, it feels actually very good to open, all right? And, you know, these intermediate links, actually make it a very, very easy and comfortable wear as well as, you know, just a very, very breathable feel as you can see, there's a lot of space between those links so it makes it a very, very comfortable overall sensation, you barely feel like this thing is on your wrist, it's so soft, all right?
