We'd greatly appreciate if you'd purchase your next watch from us at JazTime.com. Today, we'll be taking a look at this Datejust 31. This one in what they call a dark gray dial with diamonds-fluted bezel, with a two-tone yellow gold and a stainless steel oyster bracelet, reference number 278273. All right, I'll be going over the case, the dial, the bezel, the crown functions, as well as the movement, and I'll be giving you my thoughts on all of these features, including that of the bracelet toward the end of the video, all right? So, starting off with this case, as in the name Datejust 31, it's 31 millimeters from finger to thumb. That's the diameter from two o'clock to eight o'clock or also 10 o'clock to four o'clock, same distance, same diameter, same 31 millimeters. You have the monobloc middle case, with the screw-down case back and the Rolex winding crown to ensure water resistance and waterproofness down to 100 meters or 330 feet below sea level. All right, as you can see, you have the full stainless steel construction for all high polish, as you can see, thanks to the oyster steel, that is Rolex's own proprietary blend of steel with other minerals in order to create an exceptionally strong, sort of the most sturdiest steel that you can have, while also maintaining that super high polish look. Hard to see under these stickers, but you can kind of see it in the little spaces between the sort of pieces of the stickers there. All right, now, taking a look at what's on the front of this case, it is the yellow gold fluted bezel. The fluted bezel originally intended with the purpose of screwing directly onto the front of the case to ensure water resistance and waterproofness, but modern technology has sort of rendered that, well, not all that necessary anymore. So, now it's just kept as a mark of distinction, and it's always made in some sort of gold, in this case, yellow gold. Makes a very, very nice contrast in terms of the color scheme here, all right? And speaking of the color, we do have the dark gray dial sunburst or sunray type of dial, as you can see. It has that sort of signature look, as you would find on many Datejust dials, as you can see as I move it through the light box here, all right? So, it has all those different sort of values, these tints, tones, and shades of those gray, right? And also you have the sort of matching yellow gold sort of print on the dial, as well as the 18-carat yellow gold settings for the round diamonds, 10 in total. You have the Rolex crown logo at the 12 o'clock, also in 18 carat yellow gold, and you also have the date aperture at the three o'clock position, small on the dial, but nice and big when magnified under the Cyclops lens directly at the three o'clock position, part of the scratch resistant and glare proof sapphire crystal, as you can see. Right now, taking a look at the crown functions of this watch, simply unwind it at the three o'clock position. And to the first position, this allows you to wind the watch. So, about 20 to 30 full winds, will get you to the full power reserve, nice and easy there, if you're at a dead stop, right? Pull the crown out to the next position, you can then advance the date forward by rotating it counterclockwise, all right? So, it's about a quarter turn to advance the date by one, all right? So, if you find yourself on, say, the 30th of a month, an irregularly numbered month, like say April, for example, you can then just move it over once at the end of the month, wait for the hour hand to roll around at midnight, and then it'll land on the first, when it is the 1st of May, all right? So, pull out the crown now to the final position. This allows you to set the time, move the minute hand, and it also stops that seconds hand, giving you that hacking function so you can then place the minute hand precisely wherever it needs to go. And even though there's no minute track on this dial, you can still use the rear hull, the engraving of the word or the name Rolex across this dial, where every X marks five minutes. So, the X lands on the first five minute mark, lands on the 10 minute mark, et cetera. So, you can then place the minute hand precisely wherever it needs to go based on the position of that seconds hand as well. Press the crown back in to start that seconds hand, and screw it back tightly against the case to ensure the superior water resistance, all right? So, what makes all of this work on the inside? It is the in-house made caliber 2236 made in-house by Rolex. You can't see it through the case back, but you do have that added sense of stability and security of that solid steel case back. You have the plus or minus two second per day time differential after casing. That gives it the Superlative Chronometer Official Certification as printed on every of Rolex dial, including this one. It gives it the center hour, minute, and second hands with the instantaneous date with a rapid setting, and stop seconds for precise time setting. Those functions, I had just demonstrated with the crown functions, right? The oscillator on the inside is the Syloxi hairspring in silicon, and also has Paraflex, high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers. So, what does that mean? That means you can get relatively close to magnets. You can get... Well, it's so magnetic resistant that it is basically amagnetic. Because of this silicon hairspring, that means that it'll be keeping track of time, regardless of the magnetism surrounding this watch, just don't throw it into an MRI machine, or well, don't throw it ever. But the Paraflex shock absorbers will actually help absorb impacts on the watch. You can take a few bumps here and there, It'll be keeping track of time just fine. You don't need to worry about the timekeeping ability of the inside. The winding also takes place with a bi-directional self-winding rotor center mounting. It's a perpetual winding rotor. So, basically all that means is that you can just simply wind the watch once using the mechanical winding function, as I demonstrated with the winding crown. Just simply wear the watch on your wrist, and the natural movements of your wrist will keep the watch wound to the full power reserve, the full power reserve being about 55 hours for this movement, meaning that you can basically set it down on a Friday evening, late Friday evening, You can pick it back up early Monday morning, no need to wind the watch. It'll still be going nice and strong. Just wear it all of Monday and you're good to go. You'll be back out to the full power reserve. All right, so now, while I'm zoomed out here, you can actually see that this is made with an oyster bracelet, the two-tone bracelet, what they call Everose, oh no, not Everose. They call it the Rolesor bracelet, or it's an overall Rolesor model. Rolesor is their term for basically a two-tone model, both gold and steel. Now, this gives you the best of both worlds. You do have the high polished gold down the center, yellow gold, as you can see, with the set and brush finish on the steel portions of these links. Oyster bracelets are three-piece links across with the center portion being a high polish, In this case, high polish along the sides as well, alright? Gentle taper down to the oyster folding clasp, all right, with the Rolex raised crown logo center, all right, center on the clasp there. To open it, just simply lift the top to unhook it, and you have the Rolex stamped logo on the inside, and you'll know that you're dealing with a full steel construction for this clasp, all right? Now, taking a look underneath the clasp here, you do have the advantage of what is known as the easy link five millimeter extension. So, if you have this watch sized perfectly to your wrist, sizes your wrist in this position, because in that way, when your wrist does eventually swell, and every wrist expands depending on your water content, your hydration and the surrounding environment's temperature. So, if you walk outside during a California wildfire, for example, and well, you just pounded maybe three liters of water, well, your wrist is probably going to swell. So, just simply reach underneath the clasp, pull it straight out, and there you go. Clips open and you get another half oyster link, or in other words, five millimeters of comfort extension so you can continue to wear your watch without any issue. When you no longer need it, just simply fold it back in on itself, snap it back into the case, and there you go, all right? And while I'm here, I can actually try it on, give you my thoughts as to how it is on my wrist, at least a seven-inch wrist. That's my measurement there, all right? So, Datejust 31, the camera's having trouble focusing. There we go, all right. So, I get plenty of bracelet from the 12 and six o'clock size of the watch case, all right? So, a little small for me, but that just means it's bordering on the sort of accessory side of things, just for my own sake. If you have a smaller wrist, maybe down to maybe six, or maybe even five inches in circumference, this'll work just fine for you. And incredibly easy to read when it comes to the overall look of the front of this watch. And it also does have a bit of that sort of black and gold sort of royalty look, that sort of classy and elegant look, that is sort of prevalent with the sort of color scheme here. Even though it's not literally black, this sort of dark gray gives a sense of a little bit extra, because when it's all black, it's all black, but that little, that dark gray, that tiny difference between dark gray and black gives it sort of that element of subtlety that just sort of eludes a lot of other people, but if you know what you're doing, you know what you're doing. This gray, very, very nice, very, very beautiful. And with this golden sort of accent here, gives it a very sophisticated look indeed. All right, now, taking a look straight down the wrist here, there's plenty... Well, if you'd have a smaller wrist, you'd have plenty of space beneath these lugs. Not that that would be an issue, because for me, the lugs rest perfectly on my wrist here. And there's plenty of space among these links, because well, thanks to Rolex's zero tolerances on their, well, pretty much zero tolerances on their bracelets, there's all this space among these links that will never actually change all that much. Meaning that you can continue to wear this watch, it won't pinch your skin, it won't pull out your hairs, and vents the wrist very nicely. You can wear this all day without breaking a sweat on it. Very, very comfortable indeed, and very, very comfortable on the wrist. Very light as well, it being a Datejust 31, right? So, if you do have a smaller wrist, you may notice it a little bit more than I do, but that's totally fine. And at the end of the day, you know that you're wearing a Rolex on your wrist. And even though it may be sort of bordering on the level of accessory, less so a timepiece, it's still a very powerful timepiece in its own right. It's a Rolex. What else is there to complain about? Well, absolutely nothing, all right? So, that's enough of what I think. What do you guys think about this watch? Let us know what you think down in the comments below.
