Today we'll be going over a vintage, a legacy Rolex Lady Datejust, reference number 69178 entirely in yellow gold, yellow gold bezel, yellow gold case, even yellow gold president bracelet, and a champagne dial with index markers to match. All right, I'll be going over all of that which I have just mentioned, the case, dial, crown movement and the bracelet. And I'll be giving you my thoughts on these as we progress throughout the video. Now, this watch is no longer made. It was only in production from about the eighties to sometime in the nineties. I don't know exactly when this watch came out. We have a relatively good idea, it was around the mid to early nineties, all right. So this is certainly a legacy product that you are looking at here. Now, when I sit at, this is a vintage model. Some of you may have that sort of feeling like, wow I feel very old because I just saw one of these yesterday. And I feel that same feeling as well, especially when I saw a band like Weezer on VH1 classic, not on regular VH1. Well, perhaps, maybe the feel is a bit different, but the essence is still there. This was just yesterday, seemingly that this was a relatively new watch. People wore this and for good reason, it's a Rolex, and it offers you exactly what Rolex typically offers. All right, so again, 26 millimeters diameter in case from finger to thumb. It comes in that monoblock mill case, oyster style case as you would come to expect from Rolex with those nicely tapered lugs, high polished along the sides. There's a brush finishing on the front here to sort of diffuse the light a little bit more. So you get a bit more attention on the dial and the fluted bezel. All right, altogether, this has the screw-down case back with the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. So you can be assured that this will ever maintain water resistance down to 100 meters or 330 feet below sea level, right? This bezel here matching yellow gold to match that of the case and the bracelet. All right, originally the fluted look was for effectively screwing it on directly to the front of the case in order to ensure water proofness, but your modern advancements, even though it was the eighties and nineties. Back then it was still modern. Modern advancements have made it so that you didn't really, they didn't really need to screw it on here any more. It was just more an aesthetic element. So when you see that fluted bezel you know that it is indeed a Rolex and it's always in gold, in this case, yellow gold. All right, taking a close look at that dial, again, this is a 26 millimeter watch case. So everything here I am zoomed in as far as I can go on this watch. And it's kind of hard to keep it in focus, because I'm basically at minimum focusing distance as well for this lens. All right, but as you can see, it has a very, very appealing sun ray effect on that champagne colored dial made to match that of the yellow gold. And if you'll notice the index hour markers are also actually in yellow gold, 18 carat yellow gold to match that of the champagne dial and the gold of the case. Now, if you look very closely, it looks like those are luminescent markers on the index hour marks and luminescence on the hands, but I can assure you that they are in fact not. Because if I turn it on my black light, well, you're not really seeing anything there. And since it's technically charged, I turned off the lights and well, there's no light to speak of. And it's actually so dark that my camera's having a very difficult time trying to focus, but as you can see, no luminescence, right? You could say that this was possibly made before the time of luminescence, well, no, they just didn't have it yet on the Datejust. All right, because it was the eighties and the nineties. Technology was still progressing back then. All right, and so when we come to the functions of how all this works, well, simply unwind the crown to the first position to wind the watch. A bit loud. I think you can hear that on my microphone. All right, as I'm winding the main spring in there nice and tight so it maintains that, I believe, I don't know the power reserve on this one actually. Very difficult to find information on these legacy models. All right, so pulling it out to the next position, if you rotate the crown not counter-clockwise, but clockwise it advances the date by one and the throw is relatively sensitive. So it's about a quarter turn to advance the date, right? So if you find yourself on say February 28th, you can advance the date to March 1st, rather easily, all right? Pull out to the final position, and it notice that it actually hacks out seconds hand. You actually stop the seconds hand so you can adjust the time anywhere you need for precise timekeeping. Now, for a watch model made in this time period, this is actually quite remarkable, because there are other watches made even in the two thousands that don't have this feature. So this is quite an advancement. And, actually, if you were paying attention, that quick setting of the date was actually very new. This is what the caliber 2135. And it was basically a replacement for the original caliber 2035 for the previous models. But what sets this one apart is that it has that ability to quick set that time or the date and that date window underneath that Cyclops lens, all right? Because the previous model, the previous generation of this model required you to effectively unwind the crown and just make that, basically just keep turning that minute hand and the hour hand all the way to adjust the dates. So imagine having to adjust the date like this. That's very time-consuming, all right. I did all of that just to advance the date by about one, a little bit more than one. So it's about 36 hours right there that I just advance the time in order to advance the date by two days. And that's not a very good use of your time. So, introducing that quick set feature actually makes it far easier to just set the date and go on with the rest of your life. Really easy. All right. And on the inside it has the glue suitor balance wheel different from the, I believe, the pair chrome blue hairspring that has the the never ox hairspring with brigade over coil and the KIF shock absorbers. It also has the 28,800 vibration per hour frequency as a standard with all Rolexes, beating at four Hertz. So you can be sure that it maintains time just fine. All right, the KIF shock absorbers, they do have the pair flux shock absorbers in newer models. The KIF is a legacy form that not quite as strong as the pair flux, but this model is not made for sports. You're not made to go mountain biking with this. Don't play a violent game of, I don't know, hockey or American football, but you simply wouldn't really be wearing this in those circumstances anyway. All right, so on from there, it has the lace president style bracelet. A very, very small links there. All right, and you can see from the side that it has almost semicircular links brushed on the sides on the side links and a high polished down the center, intermediary links. All right, that leads us to the concealed folding crown class. And it's a bit different from the newer models. The newer model of this concealed folding crown class on the presidents basically allows you to just lift the crown and it opens, but actually that's not where the locking mechanism is on this model, right. Because the locking mechanism is actually on the inside of the clasp right here. See it's that sort of that button with the whole shape. So it just snaps right in, all right. So if you're kind of a fidgeter like I am don't make it a habit of unfastening and fastening it because you could, you definitely will wear down this clasp. All right. Note that it does have that crown logo there. So you can know at least where it is, right. And while we're here, well, typically I would try on the watch, but I've already tried and this watch does not actually fit over my hand very comfortably. So I'm not gonna be able to actually try it on the wrist. But you'll have a general idea if I hold it up against my wrist, you'll have a general idea of how it looks on the wrist. And at 26 millimeters, it's a tiny, tiny watch for a wrist of my size, which is that of seven, some 0.2 five to seven and a half inches in circumference. All right, so definitely for anyone whose hands have not been absolutely destroyed by a testosterone, you can certainly slip this on no problem. And this will probably fit you very nicely. Anyone who is able to actually get it past all of their knuckles, as you can see there, I can't really pull it much further than that without potentially risking my entire hand, cutting off circulation and well, no more review videos for you, all right. Actually, when I'm looking at the clasp period, it actually looks like it's almost a rose gold color. Now this bracelet was not actually originally a rose gold, it was all yellow gold, but looking at the inside it has kind of a rose gold tint to it. I'm not sure if that was intentional, or if that was just something that developed over time. No idea. All right, but if you look very closely at the inside of this clasp, here you can actually see, actually let me open it up, that'll be easier. You can actually see that there are hallmarks listed there. So you are indeed dealing with precious metals, in this case, 18 carat, as you can see at the very bottom, 18 carat yellow gold, all made by Rolex. All right, and again, brushed surfaces to give it that very very nice texture, a very satiny texture. All right, so who is this for? This is for anybody who really appreciates the vintage look. Anyone who really wants to represent the eighties and the nineties very well with one of these exceptional timepieces. And also, let me also remark here. I don't know if this is also a side effect, well not really side effect, sort of the developmental effect of an older time piece, because this is all gold, and so gold is malleable much more malleable than that of steel. So this watch actually will conform to any sort of wrist shape provided that you wear this snug on the wrist. So if you'll look, it actually does have a bit of a bend to it. So kind of sports, sporty in that aspect, but again, don't go mountain biking with this. Don't play tennis with this. It's made for looks. And certainly it has it, all right. Anyone who is looking for some sort of gold type of accessory while not compromising on timekeeping, because this is Rolex, it is a Datejust, it is made for accuracy, all right. So enough of what I think, what do you think about this watch? Let us know down in the comments below. And if you happen to know the time, the power reserve for this watch, let us know as well, because I couldn't find it anywhere. It's actually rather difficult doing research on old products like this one because, well, the internet just sometimes doesn't keep up information and it doesn't make it very easy to find, all right. So if you happen to know the power reserve, I love to know down in the comments below, let's get a discussion going about this one. This one's quite an interesting watch, as you can see. All right, so be sure to hit that like button as it really helps our channel out. Be sure to subscribe if you haven't already.
