Newly Released Audemars Piguet Watches 2021

Audemars Piguet remains one of the elite luxury watch manufacturers in the world and new releases in the Royal Oak collection are always met with great excitement. This year, six new Royal Oak models were released, with a range of variants, allowing the brand to flex its creative muscles, while giving buyers plenty of choice too.

In this article, we take a closer look at the six new models in the Royal Oak line, outlining their main features, exploring their appeal, and explaining the different options buyers have in terms of materials and dial colors.

Royal Oak Offshore Diver | 15720ST

Audemars Piguet introduced three new models within the Royal Oak Offshore Diver range for 2021. All three variants of the Ref. 15720ST Offshore are made from stainless steel and are powered by the new Caliber 4308 movement, which offers excellent precision, along with a second and instant-jump date display. Blue, grey and khaki dial colors are available, and the models retain the 42mm case size previously associated with the Offshore Diver collection.

One of the most significant new features is a quick-release strap function. This enables the strap to be removed from the main case via the press of a button and each new Royal Oak Offshore Diver model is sold with two straps, allowing buyers to make use of this quickly and alter the appearance of their watch based on the look they need that day.

The dial itself has also been altered slightly from the previous Offshore Diver models, with the ‘AP’ initials replacing the words ‘Audemars Piguet’ near the top, while new dial markers are also present.

Another collection with new models for 2021 is the Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph line. All variations are made from 18k rose gold and have a 41mm case size. These timepieces also mark the first time the collection has been powered by the latest selfwinding chronograph movement, the Caliber 4401.

Visually, there are four options in total. The first two options come with a rose gold bracelet, providing a consistent aesthetic, and the choice here is between a brown or a blue dial. Alternatively, the new model is also available with a leather strap. Here, the choice of either a brown or blue dial is also matched with either a brown or blue strap.

The new Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph also features the classic ‘Grande Tapisserie’ pattern on its dial, while the sub-dials are rose gold, resulting in a coherent, stylish and functional timepiece.

When it was first introduced back in 1993, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph represented the very first Royal Oak model with chronograph functionality and its size and dimensions earned it the nickname ‘The Beast’. The 2021 update still retains key elements of that original design, but brings it into the modern age.

It is the first model in the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph lineage to feature the brand’s new selfwinding flyback chronograph, the Caliber 4401. There are a total of five variants, with the choice of stainless steel, rose gold, or titanium as the case material. The rose gold version has a black dial, the stainless steel version has either a black or light brown dial, while the titanium option has either a blue or a grey dial color.

The dial itself is nicely balanced, with sub-dials at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions, and a date display window positioned between the 4 and 5 o’clock dial markers. A quick-release strap also allows for visual flexibility.

Green Hued Royal Oak Timepieces | 26534TI & 15202PT

Some other new additions for 2021 include a variety of Royal Oak watches with green dials. This includes a Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Extra-Thin model made from full 950 platinum, and three new models in the Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon line.

However, perhaps the stand out new addition in terms of Royal Oak timepieces with green hues is the new 18k yellow gold Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph. This particular addition is a limited edition release, with only 125 pieces being sold, and the words ‘Limited Edition’ are engraved on the caseback.

Ultimately, this means buyers of these various models now have another dial color option to choose from, and the green dial contrasts nicely with platinum or yellow gold, providing a sophisticated, eye-catching aesthetic.

Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Special Edition

The new Black Panther Special Edition release is inspired by the suit from the Marvel movie ‘Black Panther’ and forms part of the Royal Oak Concept line. The 42mm model features a futuristic design, a flying tourbillon complication, a sandblasted titanium case, a black ceramic bezel and a Caliber 2965 movement.

However, the main appeal of this limited edition release is the distinctive appearance of the dial, which features a hand painted, three dimensional depiction of the superhero Black Panther in his full suit. This Black Panther character is crafted from white gold and made using a combination of hand and laser sculpting.

The finishing touches are provided by the combination of a purple inner bezel and a matching purple rubber strap.

Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon

Finally, the Royal Oak Concept line sees another new addition in the form of the Royal Oak Concept Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon. The model is available in a choice of either 18k rose gold or 18k white gold and, as the name suggests, the case has a frosted gold finish, providing it with a shimmering sense of luxury and elegance.

This marks the first time the Royal Oak Concept line has had a frosted gold model added to the collection. The combination of this old-fashioned technique and the flying tourbillon itself provides the model with a sense of tradition, which then contrasts with the highly modern, open-worked design of the watch itself.

As with other new releases, the model also features the new interchangeable strap system.

The Last Word

Audemars Piguet’s new releases for 2021 respect the lineage of the Royal Oak name, while helping to take the collection forward through greater choice, new complications, and a variety of new design features.

Nevertheless, these new models will be difficult to get hold of for the average buyer, and you can read our blog guide here to gain a better understanding of precisely why that is the case.
