About Rolex GMT-Master II “Blueberry” reference 16710

This watch is a custom made, inspired by 1675 GMT “Blueberry.” Here is the link to purchase this watch.

The Rolex GMT-Master II “Blueberry,” starts with a 16710 GMT Master II as the base model which is a sought-after vintage watch from Rolex. This watch on its own is a classic. This is the last time they had the vintage look on this watch. After 2007, the updated watches don’t carry the same vintage look. Using this base model give us the benefits of modern build but also gives us the vintage appearance, thinner lugs.

The GMT-Master II is on the Rolex professional line. Originally built in the 1950’s and more or less looks the same as it always has. GMT was originally made for Pan-Am Airlines that would allow pilots to tell time in two different time zones.

Dual Color Bezel vs. Single Color Bezel

The introduction of the dual-color bezel was initially to help distinguish between day and night hours in a second time zone, a feature that became iconic with models like the “Pepsi” (red and blue bezel) and the “Batman” (blue and black bezel). Rolex has also produced models with single-color bezels, such as the aforementioned “Blueberry” and others with black bezels. These variations offer a different aesthetic while maintaining the GMT-Master’s renowned functionality for tracking multiple time zones.

This watch with a single accent on the 24-hour sub hand – all red hand it’s stunning!

Faded Blue Bezel

This is not a cheap blue aftermarket bezel, we have a watch maker work on the bezel and create a weathered blue bezel.

The Updated Vintage Dial

We work with a dial maker to to create a vintage-styled dial. We take an original dial, wipe it down, add back the black base, add a matte finish, fade it slightly, and add back hour markers in the original form. This is slightly yellowed lume to capture vintage weathering as well. The hands also get updated to match the hour markers as well.

The Bracelet

We used the reference 16710 has a strong bracelet and has a vintage vibe. The most common bracelet type found on the 16710 is the Oyster bracelet. Known for its robustness and versatility, the Oyster bracelet features three-piece links. This bracelet is designed for comfort and durability, making it suitable for everyday wear.

The Movement is a 3185

This is a fantastic movement that was used for over 20 years. Great movement, very serviceable. The Rolex Caliber 3185 is a self-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured by Rolex. Introduced in the late 1980s, it was a significant advancement in Rolex’s lineup of movements for several reasons.

Dual Time Zone Feature: The Caliber 3185 was designed for GMT watches, allowing the wearer to track a second time zone. This is achieved through an additional hour hand that completes one rotation every 24 hours, in conjunction with the rotating bezel.

Date Function: The movement also includes an instantaneous date function, which changes the date display at midnight. The date is linked to the local time hour hand, allowing it to be set independently without stopping the movement.

Construction and Components: The Caliber 3185 includes features such as a Breguet overcoil and a free-sprung Microstella balance wheel, which contribute to its accuracy. The movement has 31 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), and a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
