The Lady Datejust line was introduced as part of the wider Rolex Datejust family back in the 1950s, offering the collection’s trademark combination of style and function in a smaller, more feminine size. Since that time, the women’s models have evolved continuously, most recently with the release of the Lady Datejust 28 in 2015.
Featuring a redesigned case, with a larger 28mm case diameter, the Ladies Rolex was well-received. This year, at Baselworld 2017, the manufacturer unveiled two new versions of the model, expanding the collection and making it available from a lower price point. Here, we look more closely at the two new releases.
Affordable Stainless Steel Model
Initially, the Lady Datejust 28 was only available in a choice of gold, or two-tone gold and stainless steel, referred to in Rolex terminology as ‘Rolesor‘. This year, for the first time, the 28mm model is available in 904L stainless steel, or in 904L stainless steel with an 18k white gold bezel.
The pure stainless steel model features a smooth bezel, while the steel and white gold version features a fluted white gold bezel. Technically, this model is also classed as a ‘Rolesor‘ model, but it does not feature the two-tone combination on the bracelet, like the previously-released gold and steel versions.
For those looking for something a little more extravagant, the steel and white gold version of the 2017 Lady Datejust 28 is also available with a diamond-set bezel and 18k white gold settings.
Updated and Reliable movement
As with the models released in 2015 an 2016, the new Rolex Lady Datejust 28 watches are powered by the in-house Caliber 2236 movement, which is equipped with a patented Syloxi hairspring in silicon. This movement has Superlative Chronometer certification, precision to the order of -2/+2 seconds per day and a 55 hour power reserve.
Aesthetically, the model sports the classic features associated with the Datejust family, including the presence of the trademark date display window, which is located at the 3 o’clock position and fitted with a Cyclops magnifying lens. Meanwhile, the Oyster case guarantees water resistance for up to 100 meters, or 330 feet.
