New 2017 Patek Philippe Watch Collection

The Geneva-based watch manufacturer Patek Philippe is firmly established as one of the most prestigious watch companies in the world, with past owners ranging from Queen Victoria to Albert Einstein. This tradition, combined with the company’s history of innovation, ensure that any new models attract significant attention.

Like many of the other top luxury watch brands around, Patek Philippe use the annual Baselworld Fair to introduce their new models and this year was no different. In this blog post, we take a more detailed look at some of the most interesting and exciting models unveiled by the manufacturer at this year’s event.

1. Aquanaut Ref. 5168G “Jumbo” Case

In celebration of the collection’s 20th anniversary, Patek Philippe announced a new Aquanaut model in the form of the Reference 5168G. This timepiece arguably attracted the most attention out of any of the new Patek models and the most notable feature to mention is its 42mm ‘jumbo’ case diameter, which has already proved a big hit.

The timepiece’s 18k white gold case marks a significant change from the more standard stainless steel models and is a first for the Aquanaut range. This new materials, paired with a classy blue gradient dial, helps to provide sophistication, while a sporty edge is added by the inclusion of a midnight blue ‘tropical’ rubber strap.

2. Calatrava Ref. 6006G

Another new release from the brand this year comes in the form of the Calatrava Reference 6006G. This is another watch with an 18k white gold case, although this time it is slightly smaller, measuring 39mm in diameter. Perhaps its most striking feature is an off-center small seconds sub-dial, which is located between 4 and 5 o’clock.

The Reference 6006G has a black dial and a black alligator strap, giving it a fairly conventional base to build upon. However, its dial is much more unusual. In addition to the sub-dial, it features a date display track around the outside, with the date being indicated by a separate hand, while the time is displayed on the inner track.

3. Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5320G Grand Complications

One of the more interesting Patek watches showcased at Baselworld was the brand new Perpetual Calendar Reference 5320G. As with the previous two models, it also has a white gold case, this time measuring 40mm in diameter. Aesthetically, the watch has a clear vintage appeal, but this is combined with very modern technology.

The most obvious feature is its perpetual calendar function, which consists of a day and month display under the 12 o’clock dial marker, and a date display and moon phase indicator above the 6 o’clock position. The model has a brown alligator strap, is powered by the Caliber 324 S Q and automatically adjusts the date display for leap years.

4. Calatrava Ref. 4899 Pink Sapphire & Diamonds

This eye-catching model’s 18k white gold case measures just under 36mm in diameter and is decorated with a total of 149 diamonds and 182 pink sapphires, giving it a clear sense of extravagance and luxury.

In addition, the watch has an engraved mother of pearl dial, which is set with 89 pink sapphires and 98 diamonds, while yet more precious stones appear on the crown. A pink alligator strap helps to further enhance the clear femininity of the timepiece and the watch is powered by the in-house Caliber 240 movement.
