What Is the Rolex Submariner No Date 124060?

The Rolex Submariner No Date 124060 is the newest evolution of Rolex’s most iconic dive watch, released in late 2020. This all-steel, black dial, black bezel configuration represents the purest expression of the Submariner concept. No date complication, no two-tone metals, no flashy colors. Just a clean, functional dive watch that works with absolutely anything you throw at it.

The Numbers: Full Specifications

The Rolex Submariner 124060 brings several upgrades over its predecessor, the 114060. Here’s everything you need to know:

  • Case diameter: 41mm (up from 40mm)
  • Case thickness: 12.25mm
  • Lug-to-lug: 48mm
  • Lug width: 21mm (up from 20mm, so older bracelets won’t fit)
  • Case material: Oystersteel
  • Bezel: Unidirectional 60-minute Cerachrom ceramic insert with platinum-coated numerals
  • Water resistance: 300 meters (1,000 feet) with Triplock crown system
  • Movement: Caliber 3230, automatic, COSC certified
  • Power reserve: 70 hours (up from 48-55 hours in the previous 3130 caliber)
  • Accuracy: +/- 2 seconds per day after casing
  • Bracelet: Oyster with Glidelock extension system (20mm of micro-adjustment)

What These Specs Mean in Practice

That jump from 40mm to 41mm sounds small on paper, but the real story is the case redesign. This is no longer what Rolex called a “super case.” The lugs are more tapered and thinner overall. Think of it as taking the previous version and flattening it out slightly, causing it to expand by about a millimeter in diameter. The result is a watch that wears differently on the wrist.

The 70-hour power reserve is the headline upgrade here. You can set this Rolex Submariner No Date 124060 down on Friday evening and pick it back up Monday morning ready to go. No winding required. That’s almost three full days of reserve, which is a significant improvement over the previous generation.

The movement also features Rolex’s Parachrom blue hairspring, which is paramagnetic. Get close to magnets, take a few bumps, and this thing keeps ticking within spec. The COSC certification guarantees accuracy, but Rolex’s own standard of +/- 2 seconds per day after casing is even tighter than what COSC requires.

Design Details Worth Noting

The black dial on the Rolex Submariner No Date 124060 is completely smooth with a matte finish. No texture, no sunburst. It’s framed by 18 karat white gold hour markers in that classic maxi dial style. The 12 o’clock position gets the traditional triangle, 3, 6, and 9 are rectangles, and the remaining hours are circles.

The Cerachrom bezel insert is scratch resistant ceramic with platinum-coated numerals and graduations. That platinum gives the markings a reflective quality that blends nicely with the steel case while still being clearly legible. The first 15 minutes have the finest graduations since that’s the most critical period for tracking decompression stops.

Chromalight lume on the dial, hands, and bezel pearl makes this extremely readable in low light conditions. The seconds hand has its own lume pip that sweeps around the dial center, which is a nice touch for confirming the watch is running at a glance.

On the Wrist

On a 7.25 to 7.5 inch wrist, the Submariner 124060 fits comfortably with one or two links removed. The redesigned case means the lugs don’t hug down onto the wrist quite as aggressively as the old super case. There’s more breathing room, though the tradeoff is that the watch sits up slightly higher.

The Glidelock system on the clasp provides up to 20mm of micro-adjustment without any tools. Pull the release outward, slide the clasp to your preferred position, and you’re set. This is useful for wearing over a wetsuit but just as practical for daily comfort. The recommendation is to keep it at the smallest comfortable setting so you have room to expand throughout the day if needed.

Weight feels consistent with other Submariners. It’s substantial enough that you know you’re wearing a serious tool watch, but it’s not the wrist anchor that a Deep-Sea or Sea-Dweller can be. The Oyster bracelet links allow airflow, so sweat isn’t really an issue.

Who Should Buy the Submariner 124060?

This is the entry-level Submariner in the best sense of that phrase. No date complication means a cleaner dial and a lower price point than the date models. The all-black, all-steel configuration makes it the most neutral option in the lineup. No green bezel, no precious metals, no flash.

The Rolex Submariner No Date Stainless Steel 124060 works with anything. Suit, wetsuit, t-shirt. It doesn’t scream for attention the way a two-tone or rose gold variant might. If you want a Submariner but don’t want to flaunt it, this is your watch.

For collectors, the Submariner remains the staple of the Rolex lineup. It’s the watch most people picture when they think of Rolex, and it’s consistently the highest-demand model in the catalog. Starting a collection? This is a solid foundation. Building out a Submariner-specific collection? The no-date reference is essential.

The JazTime Verdict

The Rolex Submariner No Date 124060 delivers everything the Submariner name promises with meaningful upgrades where they matter most. That 70-hour power reserve and refined case geometry make this the best no-date Sub Rolex has ever made. If you want a versatile, understated luxury dive watch that will work for decades, grab this one from JazTime before it’s gone.
