Hey guys, this is Kevin from JazTime.com and today we'll be doing a review on the Rolex Day-Date 40, reference number 228235. We'll be going over the price, the dial, bezel, case, crown, bracelet, clasp, and we'll talk about the movement towards the end of the video. Okay, so as of February, 2018, you can get this watch from an authorized Rolex retailer for $37,550. And of course, here at JazTime.com, we always stive to have the lowest prices online so check out our website for the most up-to-date pricing. All right, so let's go ahead and move on to the dial now. For the Day-Date, a very basic dial architecture. We have the hour markers in Roman numeral, and those hour markers are made of 18 karat Everose gold, Everose gold being a special rose gold that Rolex uses, is that they added platinum into their rose gold mix to help keep that rose gold look throughout the watch's lifetime. So, in general, rose gold has a mixture of about 75% of yellow gold, and a mixture of copper and other alloys into the rose gold. At Rolex, they added a little bit of platinum, about 2% or so, so that rose gold can keep its color. Okay, and that applies to the hands as well. You can see at the hour markers, and the minute, and the seconds hand also made out of that 18 karat Everose gold. The dial color I have in my hand is the olive color dial. Of course, if you're not interested in the olive color dial, this watch does also come in a white, brown or silver dial. For index hour markers instead of Roman numerals, you can get that in a brown or silver dial. And you're feeling a little more luxurious, you want to add some diamonds instead of the Roman numerals as index markers, you can get diamond index markers for an additional $4,500 on the retail cost, and you can get that either in a silver or brown dial. There's a special option for the specific Day-Date the 228235, that's above the normal luxuriness, is that that they have a diamond pave dial where the whole dial is paved with diamonds, including the hour markers and the pricing for that is much, much more than just the diamond hour markers. Okay, besides that, the Day-Date has the actual name of the day at the 12:00 position at the very top and that can be adjusted by the crown. The 3:00 position has a date window with a Cyclops lens on top with that sapphire crystal for magnification, easier viewing of that date. Okay, moving on to the bezel now, bezel, very simple, fluted 18 karat Everose gold bezel nicely high-polished, and as you can see, captures light very nicely at different portions of that fluted bezel. Okay, and that matches very nicely, as we move on to the case you can see a nice high polish on the lugs of the case, the tops and bottoms, very beautiful high polish that matches with that high polish on that fluted bezel. The case is also made out of 18 karat Everose gold as well. As the name states, it's a Day-Date 40. This is a 40 millimeter size case, so from the index finger to my thumb here, that's 40 millimeters in diameter. Side profile, not too high, will fit under suit cuffs, dress cuffs, very nicely. We have this nice, beautiful high polish on the sides of the case as well that matches with the sides of the bracelet. As I shift it over to the other side, you can see that nice high polish on the other side of the case as well, a Rolex crown logo on the crown itself. The crown, as we move on, the crown has a screw-down twin lock double waterproofness system. The Day-Date 40 has a water resistance of 100 meters, or 330 feet. The crown, simply unwinds counterclockwise as shown, to the standard position, to which it can wind the watch from a dead stop, 15 to 20 winds clockwise is all you need to get the watch started once more. So a simple tug of the crown will put you in the second position, and you can adjust the date instantaneously as shown at the 3:00 position. Also going clockwise will adjust the actual day, as you can see there. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. And pulling the crown out to the final position will stop the seconds hand, or the hack movement for precise time keeping. And you can set the time however you would like. As you can see, hands move bi-directionally. Pressing the crown back in once more will start the seconds hand once again. And always make sure to screw in the crown nice and tight against the case. As you want to keep this watch at the water resistance that I mentioned. That 100 meters or 330 feet. Okay, let's go ahead and move onto the bracelet now. So specifically for Day-Dates, Day-Dates have a special style of bracelets called the President bracelet. The bracelet is made out of that 18 karat Everose gold once more. And they are semi-circular three-piece links. semi-circular, as you can see, as I shift it over to the side, and you can see the semi-circular links. Nicely high-polished down the center. With that brushed Everose gold on the outer of the three-piece links to add a nice contrast to the high polish in the center. To bring more of that shine out. As you can see, the bracelet is patterned throughout the whole bracelet. It's only broken by the Rolex clasp logo in the middle of the bracelet, and that's the concealed folding crown clasp. Simply tugging that crown will open up the claps, and there we are. Revealing two nicely high-polished clasp blades with the Rolex name embossed on there. Okay, so once again here's how it looks closed up. You can see the clasp hiding underneath the bracelet. And once again, this is how it looks opened up. Okay, let's go ahead and move onto the movement now. The movement is housed in this simple oyster-case backing. It has Rolex's professional mechanical self-aligning movement, it's their calibrated 255 movement, which is an updated Day-Date movement that has the chronogy escapement wheel, which is a skeletonized escapement wheel, that's made out of a nickel-phosphorus. So the skeletonization helps with the reduction of inertia so it has more precise timekeeping, keeping within the Swiss specs of the plus two, minus two seconds a day. And the nickel-phosphorus that the escapement wheel is made out of helps with additional resistance against magnetism, paired up with the oscillator, which is a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring. And those two have additional resistance against magnetism to help keep it within those Swiss specs. The functions of the movement is a center hour, minutes, and seconds hand with the instantaneous changing of the date, and the day-aperture at the 12:00 position as well, and stopping at the second-hand for precise time settings as I've shown you what the crown functions for all three. The power reserve of this watch, you're looking at a 70 hour power reserve. So you can put this watch down on a Friday evening, pick it back up on a Monday afternoon, and it'll be keeping time just fine. Okay, so let me actually go ahead and show you this watch on my wrist now. So once again, locate that folding crown clasp, and there we are. Okay, and there's the watch, on my wrist. Beautiful green dial. The 18 karat Everose gold. Absolutely gorgeous, especially when high polished. As shown on the lugs and the bezel, you can see that nice high polish throughout the whole bracelet as well. So as you can see, the profile not too high off of the wrist. Will fit under those suit cuffs and dress cuffs very nicely.
