This is a Rolex and the model number on this is a 228206 b, l, u, r, p because this is an ice blue, quadrant motif platinum Day-Date 40. Now these Day-Date 40s are available only in 18 carat gold or in platinum like you see here. Now platinum is one of the densest and the heaviest metals... and so this Day-Date, I clocked it in over on our scale: 9.3 ounces. Now to give you some perspective, the watch that I wear is a GMT stainless steel with ceramic. It's 4.3 ounces. So this guy, more than double that weight. Quite the heft to it. So what else is there to know about this watch other than, you know, it's substantial weight? Well there's plenty. First of all when we talk about the Day-Date, you can't talk about it without understanding Rolex being at the forefront of innovation in the field of luxury watches. This was the first watch to display the date and the, excuse me, the date and the day of the week spelled out in full on a window on the dial and that was in 1956. It comes on this presidential bracelet that you see here and it was actually this bracelet was created specifically for the Day-Date watch. Now when it comes to the specifics, this is an Oyster 40 millimeter case in platinum and it's a screw down case back with a winding crown. The Day-Date 40, it was introduced in2015 and uses a very special 32 55 caliber mechanical self winding movement. It's made of these semi-circular three piece links. You've got the brush polish on the outer edges with a high polish mirror center links, but all platinum! Now to look at this spectacular dial, when these Day-Dates came out in early 2015, one of the most really innovative things about them was the different dial configurations that Rolex was offering. This is sort of new for Rolex. Really made people sit up and take notice. This is a ice blue, quadrant motif. Now if we look very carefully, you can see that the watch is divided into fourths and it really allows the light to play off of the watch. And depending on how the watch moves on your wrist, the light is going to play differently. It's got these really beautiful 3D roman numerals and overall, it's a stunning piece.
