Description

Hey guys, this is Kevin from jaztime.com and today we'll be reviewing the Rolex Ladies Datejust midsize watch. The reference number for this watch is 178383. We'll be going over the pricing, the dial, bezel, case, crown, bracelet, clasp, and we'll talk about the movement towards the end of the video. Alright, so as of August 2017, you can get this from an authorized Rolex retailer for $17,650 or you can come to jaztime.com and get this watch for as low as $14,100. Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about the different configurations of the dials. So the Datejust, there's always different customizations for the Datejust. Rolex revised different styles for it. The one in my hand you're looking at, is a Jubilee dial, which has the Rolex name patterned very nicely along back, there. We have diamond hour markers, as well. If you're looking for a different color other than silver, there's also brown and champagne. If you don't like the Jubilee style dial, there's also the floral dial, which is only in a champagne color or if you're feeling even more luxurious, you can go with mother of pearl and the mother of pearl can come in brown or white, with either Roman or diamond hour markers. If you're looking specifically for a diamond dial, which is a flat, nice gradient of color, you can get that in a silver or champagne and if you don't like any of those, you're feeling that too much diamond is on the dial, you can also go with the index or Roman hour markers and that comes in either black, silver, champagne, white, or green colored dials. Okay, besides that we have a very basic dial, just the hour markers are, for this one the hour markers are, diamond hour markers with 18 karat yellow gold fashioned around to prevent any tarnishing. The hands are non-luminous. They are just solid 18 karat yellow gold. We have the date at the 3 o'clock position with a cyclops lens on top for magnification and easier viewing of that date. And we just have just a very basic Rolex name and Datejust at the bottom at the 6 o'clock. So that's that, now moving on to the bezel now. The bezel is just a very simple fixed bezel with diamonds set in. Unfortunately the karat weight of the diamonds is not released by Rolex, so I can't give you that measurement and these diamonds are set in 18 karat yellow gold bezel. See, if I tilt it, from the side you can see that yellow gold lining. The case size of the watch is a 31 millimeter case, so that's my index finger to my thumb, here. That's 31 millimeters in diameter. Side profile of the watch, not too high. It has a nice high polish along the sides. The case itself is made up of a 904L steel, which is Rolex's in-house made steel, and has a higher corrosion resistance. Moving on to the crown. The crown is a solid 18 karat yellow gold crown. That is a screw down, twin lock, and double waterproof system. On the screws, counter-clockwise to this first position, and in this first position, actually I'll go ahead and move the hand really quickly here, so in this first position that the watch is in, you can actually wind the watch going clockwise. You wanna do this 20 to 30 times, no more, as you might damage the movement of the watch by putting too much tension on the movement. Otherwise, going counter-clockwise, let's see here, as you tug down once you can go counter-clockwise in the second position of the crown to adjust the date instantaneously, as shown. Another pull out of the crown will put you in the final position, which you can set the hand bidirectionally. One thing to mention is that once the crown is in its final position, the second hands or the hack movement will stop to allow for precise time setting, such as to an automatic clock online, so if you wanna set it down to exact seconds, you can. Always makes sure to screw the crown nice and tight against the case 'cause you wanna keep this watch water resistant and the water resistance of this watch is 100 meters or 330 feet. Okay, moving on to the bracelet. The bracelet is a two-tone bracelet with a 904L steel outer links. They are sand finished, brushed steel. The center links are nice 18 karat yellow gold that's been high polished to add a little more shine to the watch. Rolex refers to this unison of 18 karat yellow gold and the 904L steel as Rolesor. Okay, and the oyster bracelet is not the only bracelet this watch comes in. It also can come in the Jubilee bracelet, which is a five piece linked bracelet, also very nice, as well. For the clasp, we just have a simple folding oyster clasp, that's shown there, pops out very nicely and it reveals this high polished clasp blade with the Rolex name embossed on there. There's a feature underneath the clasp itself called the easy link, which is the ability to adjust the bracelet five millimeters forward or backwards. As you can see there's a little indentation on the side of the clasp, there, and you can adjust that bracelet for five millimeters forward or five millimeters backwards, and that's for a little more comfort on the wrist such as on hot days when your wrist swells up, you wanna get a little more comfort for yourself. Along with, you know, vice versa, the colder days you don't want your watch to be shaking around everywhere. You can tighten it up a little bit. Alright, so moving on to movement now. The movement is housed in this oyster case backing. It has Rolex's in-house made movement. It's a perpetual mechanical, self-winding caliber 2235 movement. It has a precision of minus two, plus two seconds a day and has the functions of the center hour, minute, seconds hand and instantaneous changing of the date with rapid setting. As I've shown you with the crown and stopping the seconds hand, as well, for precise time setting. The power reserve of the watch is 48 hours, so you can put this down on a Friday evening, pick it back up a Monday evening and it will be keeping time just fine. Alright, so let me go ahead and show you this watch on my wrist. One thing to keep in mind, I do have an average man's wrist, which is seven inches. And there's the watch. Little bit of room to spare at the bottom, there. As you can see. So this is how the watch looks on the wrist. Absolutely beautiful dial with those diamond dial and the diamond bezel, as well. The pairing of the two-toned, very nice around the bracelet, as well, as you can see.
