5 Eye-catching New Omega Models

For most Omega enthusiasts, the big news coming out of Baselworld 2016 was the brand delivering on its promise to update and improve its highly successful Seamaster Planet Ocean collection. Nevertheless, those were far from the only new releases offered up by the manufacturer this year. Here, we take a more detailed look at the range of new Omega watches that were showcased at the annual event.

Seamaster Planet Ocean Master Chronometer Chronograph

Omega’s new Planet Ocean releases mark the first upgrade to this collection since 2011 and the primary change is the inclusion of a ‘Master Chronometer’ movement, which has been subjected to extensive in-house METAS testing. In addition to being more rigorously tested, these movements also offer superior anti-magnetic properties.

A new lug attachment system helps to make the strap or bracelet fit more snugly, which is ideal for a watch with a case size measuring 45mm in diameter. Moreover, there is a new diving bezel style available, which blends ceramic and rubber, giving it a truly unique appearance and allowing divers to time 15-minute intervals more easily.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean Master Chronometer will be available from August 2016, with prices starting at $8,900.

3 Extraordinary Watches of Olympic Athletes

rio-olympic-athletesWhen shopping for a luxury timepiece, many people look to see what their favourite celebrity or sports star wears, which is part of the reason why celebrity endorsement deals have become so important to manufacturers. Of course, in an Olympic Games year, the focus naturally turns to the biggest stars competing at the event.

The competition may be coming to an end in Rio, but the buzz surrounding the games will remain for several months to come. Here, we take a look at the timepieces of choice for three of the most famous Olympic athletes.

American swimmer Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time, having recently picked up the 23rd gold medal of his career in Rio. He is also a brand ambassador for Omega and appears on billboards, posters and other promotional material for the Official Timekeepers of the Olympics.

On his wrist, Phelps sports an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, which seems a sensible choice for a man who spends so much time in water. The timepiece is 45mm in diameter and rather fittingly, is a self-winding model, powered by arm movements. The particular model that Phelps wears retails for around $5,500.

3 Olympic Rio 2016 Special Edition Omega Watches

With the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro just around the corner, Omega will once again take center stage. Having served as the official timekeeper of every Olympics since 1936, the luxury watch manufacturer is an integral part of the event and all eyes will be on their timings when Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis-Hill and co. cross the finish line.

Given that the success of the event relies almost entirely on them doing their job to perfection, Omega could have been forgiven for focusing entirely on the pure timekeeping element. Instead, the company has decided to celebrate its participation through the release of three new limited edition 2016 Olympic Games timepieces.

1. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M “Rio 2016”

The first of the three limited edition models is a stunning version of the Seamaster Diver 300M, which has a retail price of $4,900. The timepiece features a 41mm stainless steel case, a co-axial chronometer, a date display window and is able to provide water resistance for up to 300 meters (1,000 feet) below the surface.

Visually, the Rio 2016 model is primarily defined by the colored numbers on its bezel, which match the colors of the Olympic rings. In addition, it has a black dial with a wavy line pattern, which is said to symbolize the famous mosaic pattern on the pavement of the 4km long Copacabana beach promenade in Rio.

Choosing the Right Size Watch That Fits Your Wrist

Have you been browsing for a new watch, but feel unsure about what size you should be looking to purchase? Rest assured, this is a common feeling. You want your watch to look good, but it also needs to feel comfortable. And if you pick the wrong size, you may attract attention for all the wrong reasons.

After all, the human mind has become accustomed to the concept of proportion, and we naturally notice if something appears too big or too small. Not to worry. Here, we have compiled a helpful guide, which will show you how to choose the right size watch to best fit your wrist and style, so you attract envious glances, rather than confused looks.

Measuring Your Wrist

first_stepBefore doing anything, it is important to take a measurement of your wrist. This will allow you to establish where your wrist falls on a basic scale of small to large, and give you an exact measurement to provide us with when you order your watch through Jaztime.com, so that ultimately we can adjust the bracelet for your ideal fit.

The easiest and most accurate way to do this is to purchase a tailor’s tape measure. If you have a tape measure thats great, if not you can use our printable wrist measure. From there, measure around your wrist, above the bone, in the exact location where you would wear your watch.  Take extra care to make sure the tape measure is neither too tight, nor too loose.

If you do not have a tape measure handy and if youcannot wait to purchase one, a simple trick is to use a sheet of paper, a tissue, or a piece of string. Wrap it around your wrist and mark the point where it overlaps, then use a ruler to measure the distance from the end to the mark you made.

As a general rule, 6 – 7 inches means you are in the small to medium range, while 7.5 – 8 inches means you are on the larger side. Any bigger than that means you are extra large.

Why does James Bond wear Omega instead of Rolex?

Roger-Moore-as-James-Bond-Rolex-SubmarinerOver the years, the legendary James Bond character has been associated with a wide range of luxury brands. For instance, in terms of cars, he has driven vehicles ranging from the iconic Aston Martin DB5 to the Audi A5, while those playing 007 have worn suits tailored by the likes of Anthony Sinclair and Tom Ford. However, when it comes to wristwatches, historically, the world’s greatest secret agent was usually associated with the Rolex brand.

Ian Fleming, the character’s creator, left us in no doubt about which watch manufacturer Bond preferred in his novel ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’, describing him as being in possession of “a heavy Rolex Oyster Perpetual on a metal watch bracelet.” Fleming continued to reference this brand in future writing and when Bond mad
e his on-screen début in the 1962 film ‘Doctor No’, lead actor Sean Connery prominently sported a Rolex Submariner.

Yet, since 1995, James Bond has seemingly parted ways with the Rolex brand and has instead opted to wear Omega watches. So what is behind this change of heart, and has James Bond worn any other watch brands on screen?

Bond’s Rolex Years

The Rolex Submariner worn by Sean Connery in ‘Doctor No’ seemed like an ideal fit for the character, especially at that time. During the early 1960s, diving had become a popular activity for those with a decent disposable income, so it was in-keeping with the character of a secret agent who enjoyed the finer things in life. At the same time, it offered great functionality and could withstand any situation in which Bond was required to go underwater.
